Reserves Tonight; pretty poor

Very disappointing game tonight. Man city won one nil to an early piece of pressure that Nico nearly spectacularly saved, but then the rest of the game was up for grabs and there was little forward invention to capture it. Despite a fairly strong Blues squad.
Kilkenny, Painter, Vaessen, Sadler, Oji, Mottram played. No-one played particularly badly but there was little creativity. My least favourite player, Barrowman, was as poor as he always is. I've been watching him in the reserves for four years now. Where on earth is he going? Mottram looked low on confidence. Till looked unusually ineffective. Kilkenny a shadow of his first team self.
Good job the defence was pretty good, or we may have lost by more.
Oportunity lost tonight.

Pat, do you think anyone was playing with a bit of caution and one eye on Saturday's team selection?
In respect of Steve and his latest, wholesale changes threat?

;)

Not surprised Kilkenny looks a shadow of himself. He's gotta be gutted at the way Brucie is overlooking him all the time when he looks like the class player every time he plays, always bringing the ball down and getting a good passing movement going. I'm gutted for the lad, he should be in the first XI every week at the moment, not the reserves.

In that Motteram, Barrowman were probably the most out of touch and not likely to get first team pick, I doubt it. In fact it wasn't a matter of lack of energy or involvement (well except for AB), it was lack of inventiveness, partic in forward play.

Don't you expect professionals to go out each time and do their thing no matter what is happening. Wright-Phillips is out of the Man City 1st team just now. He showed no signs of petulance, and in fact neither did Kilkenny, he was quite good, but not influential enough in the final third.

I wouldn't say Kilkenny should be in starting XI but deff on the subs bench and NOT playing in the reserves.

At the risk of sounding old - i remember when a reserve team's purpose was to give your back up players a run out, thus ensuring when they have to cover positions due to injury, they are fit and ready to do so.

When did that theory go out of the window?

Pat, how dare you dengrate this dear club of mine, it is parasites like you with your constant complaining that drag Birmingham City in to the gutter. A friend of mine who is a Manchester City fan came with me last night and he had a wonderful time at the game, soaking in the unique atmosphere and laughing at our players - and thats what it is all about!

Why, I always enjoy my beloved Blues. I will sit throughout dire reserve games just content with being in the vicinity of such sparkling talent. Mr Bertschin is on the verge of greatness with the reserve team squad, please, please please do not disrupt his hard work

Come on you Bllllllllllluuuuuuuuuuuuueeeeeeeeeeeeessssssssssssss

i guess that went out of the window when it became harder and harder to loan your younger players out for first team experience. It doesn't suprise me that we play such a young reserve team as we have a fairly small squad anyway.

So we drop izzet, jarosik as the attacking midfielder for someone who is learning about the premiership? Come on we need izzet centre midfield with a defensive midfielder,if he cant perform well for the reserves that wont help his chances.

Would it be better to give the kid some encouragement. As a youngster he probably uses the internet a lot more than older players and wouldnt have the experience to ignore people slagging him off. I would have thought just mention the good points but not slag off a kid.

I understand the intended irony, but I have put my effort into supporting Barrowman for nearly four years at reserve matches. Far more than most of the whingers on these boards do.

All this talk of a reseve team is complete tosh. It is youth players at various stages of devlopment plus out of favour and disinterested first teamers and those coming back from injury.

As a game of football they are dire. You would think that good individual performances would stand out and point the way to a Premiership career. I've only ever been impressed with Kilkenny and Figueroa, plus Anderton when he was getting match fit. Of those that play regularly and appear to be thought highly of on this board I have never seen a decent game from Barrowman and Motteram.

Every time I watch them I worry that the future of club rest on their shoulders
